Fantasy Dreams - Weapons (War Hammer)

A recent mass grave discovered on the scene of the Battle of Towton revealed the effect of some of the medieval weapons. A war hammer was particularly brutal and effective. The square hole in the skull below matches the shape of a typical war hammer. That really was a brutal weapon and would kill instantly.

The finds also proved that medical skill was impressive. One skull, of a particularly big individual, had a very bad injury, probably a sword blow to the face. The injury had healed which was impressive as the blow was from forehead to chin and would have taken skill to keep the individual alive.

  1. Wow. I've heard of characters with impressive scars in history, but to find evidence it actually happened and patient survived is different. Hearing about it, even if "non-fiction," part of me assumes the size and impressiveness of some scars was exaggerated somewhere along the way. Not with marks on a skeleton that can be measured in modern times. {Smile}

  2. P.S. looking at the hole in the skull shown, I suspect that war hammers are often underestimated. {Smile}
